FAQs: Quick Answers to Common Questions
What is Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Advantage, also called Part C, is an alternative to Original Medicare. It bundles Part A (hospital coverage) and Part B (medical coverage) into one plan.
Do I still pay for Part B?
Yes. You must pay your Part B premium to stay in a Medicare Advantage plan. Some plans even help pay a portion of this premium.
How much will I pay in 2025?
According to Medicare.gov, your costs depend on your chosen plan. Premiums, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance vary. Most plans also include an out-of-pocket maximum that protects you from high costs.
Can I see my current doctors?
Many plans have networks that will include your current physicians and the medical centers you use. In Tamarac, for example, plans may include Broward Health Coral Springs, while in Port St. Lucie, they often include Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital.
Who can help me sign up?
Absolute Best Insurance provides free enrollment assistance. “We guide you through every step so you get the coverage that fits your life and your budget,” says Stacy Murphy, Owner/Operator.
How Medicare Advantage Works
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans are required to cover at least the same services as Original Medicare. Most include prescription drug coverage and extras like vision, dental, or fitness memberships.
Unlike Original Medicare, which uses separate billing for Part A and Part B services, Medicare Advantage consolidates costs into one plan. Many residents of neighborhoods such as Palm Aire in Deerfield Beach or Tradition in Port St. Lucie choose these plans because they want one card, one provider network, and one monthly premium.
Medicare Advantage Costs in 2025
When comparing Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage (Part C), the way you pay for services, and your premiums and deductibles can be very different.
Original Medicare
- You pay the monthly Part B premium.
- After meeting your deductible, you usually pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for Part B-covered services. This is called coinsurance.
- If you choose a Medicare drug plan, you pay a separate premium for Part D prescription coverage.
- There is no yearly limit on what you pay out of pocket unless you have extra coverage such as Medigap, Medicaid, or retiree insurance.
- Many people purchase Medigap to help pay out-of-pocket costs that Medicare does not cover, including the 20% coinsurance.
Medicare Advantage (Part C)
- You pay the monthly Part B premium and may also have a plan premium. Some plans have a $0 premium and even help pay all or part of your Part B premium.
- Most plans include Part D prescription drug coverage, so you do not need a separate drug plan.
- Plans have a yearly limit on what you pay for covered Part A and Part B services. Some plans have different limits for in-network and out-of-network services. Once you reach your plan’s yearly limit, you pay nothing for covered services for the rest of the year.
- You cannot buy Medigap to cover out-of-pocket costs when you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan.

Types of Medicare Advantage Plans
There are five main types of Part C plans:
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)
HMO plans use a network of doctors and hospitals. You choose a primary care physician and need referrals for specialists. In Greenacres, this often includes JFK Medical Center and local primary care groups near Lake Worth Road.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
PPO plans give you more flexibility to see doctors out of network but usually at a higher cost. Residents of Melbourne often choose PPOs if they want access to larger hospital systems like Health First.
Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS)
PFFS plans decide what they will pay providers and what you pay. You can see any Medicare-approved doctor who accepts the plan’s terms.
Special Needs Plans (SNP)
SNPs are for people with certain chronic conditions, those in nursing homes, or those who qualify for Medicaid. In Vero Beach, these plans often focus on conditions like diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
Medical Savings Account (MSA)
MSA plans pair a high-deductible Part C plan with a savings account that Medicare funds for you to use on health care costs.
“We walk clients through these options every day,” says Stacy Murphy. “Your health needs and budget are unique, and so are your Medicare Advantage options.”
