You need to understand the basics of Medicare so you can navigate through various health insurance plans that are available to you. You don’t have to pay a premium for Medicare Part A if you have been paying taxes for Medicare for over 10 years. Medicare Part A covers hospital costs and Medicare Part B covers doctor visits. If you are employed medicare taxes are taken out of your paycheck each pay period. Medicare part A also covers nursing facility bills, and inpatient care visits in the hospital. Many people pay Medicare Part A premiums each month to cover home and hospital care visits. You should sign up for Medicare Part B by the time you turn 65. Medicare Part covers medical services and doctor’s appointments. Medicare Part B also covers preventative appointments, ambulance services, medical health coverage, or even medical equipment and prescription drugs. If you do not sign up for Medicare Part B when you turn 65 but try to later on you will receive a 10% penalty for the next six months.
